A new season of C rides
Hi all, I am excited about being appointed this year’s C Ride Captain! As C ride captain, I see my primary objectives to be: having C rides posted for every Saturday and Sunday throughout the season; having rides posted well in advance of their time; having rides that are comfortable for C level riders; having rides to new locations; and having rides starting from locations other than Smith Street, in particular, for one: SUNY Farmingdale.
For those of you familiar with these numbers, I envision the average C ride to be 20 - 30 miles in length, with an elevation gain of 25 - 35 ft/mile, no hills greater than 7% incline (Vanderbilt on the Belmont Lake ride just makes it; Stilwell and Mount Misery don’t), and no hills longer than 3/4 mile with greater than 4% average incline. And, it should go without saying, but, sadly must be said, C rides should go at the stated C pace: 11-12 mph for C rides and 11-13 mph for C+ rides. Since there tend to be too few C and C+ riders to send out two rides in a day, I imagine most rides will be designated “C/C+”, welcoming both C and C+ riders. At C/C+ pace, averaging 12 mph “on the flat”, the ride should end up with a moving average of about 11 - 11.5 mph.
For the first few weeks, I envision relatively short (about 18-25 miles) and relatively flat routes for riders to work back into form.
And I and the club in general welcome new ride leaders!! If you are an experienced club rider and are interested in becoming a ride leader, I will be happy to sponsor you!
I REALLY want to make C riders happy and maximize ridership on C rides. So, I REALLY want your input! If you are either fully or predominantly a C/C+ rider, please write to me about any thoughts or ideas you have relating to C/C+ rides, both now and throughout the season. Feel free to write to me individually unless you believe the whole membership should receive your response.
Thanks, and I look forward to an enjoyable season of biking and bagels!
Yours in biking (and bagels),
Mike Shapiro

Looks like you are getting off to a great start as C Ride Captain Mike.
As a reminder anyone interested in becoming a Ride Leader for C or any level, please attend the upcoming Ride Leader meeting. This meeting will be held March 21st from 7 to 9 PM at the Harborfields Library.
Good luck to Larry Denbaum as our new Ride Chairperson and A/B+ Ride Captain.
