Repaving News

Jeffrey Erlitz

Hi All,

It looks like our prayers are going to be answered. Based on yesterday’s ride from Breezy Park to Wantagh, I observed repaving markings on Bluebird and Robin Lanes in West Hills and, are you sitting down?, SWEET HOLLOW ROAD!!!!!

The markings did not seem complete on Sweet Hollow, though. It’s marked from Chichester Rd south, which is fine, that’s the really horrible part. Proceeding south, however, there were two more markings but they were both indicating “south only” directions from two unnamed side roads north of Gwynne Rd, which didn’t make too much sense.

So, we shall see….

Stay safe,
Jeff Erlitz

As you all travel around, if you see pavement markings of lines and arrows in white, that will show you the limits of the repaving area.

Based on this, I noticed that one of our all-time favorite spots for repaving is now marked for this. This is the northernmost section of Lake Road, from Dunlop Road south to about Lakeview Court. This is not a particularly long segment but it is the section in the worst shape.

Hi David,   Many rides are led from Greenlawn or Breezy Park and we have to ride on West 11th Street which is east from Oakwood road to  route 110.  Can you find out if this is on the list to be repaved?

Thanks,
Larry

Let me reword my statement, that a bicycle rider is safe as cars pass on narrow blind curves.

I will admit it is a narrow road, but a bicycle has the same right than a car to be on it. We simply have to share the road.

I do not understand why Sweet Hollow Rd is ever biked on when it is so narrow a car cannot pass safety.

Roger,
If you're complaining about Sweet Hollow, you will never make it in the cobblestones in the tour de France! Lol

On the subject of repaving, can HBC petition the right party so Sweet Hollow can be repaved? This road has been a nightmare for at least the past10 years, and is definitely no longer recommended to ride as it has now more potholes than anything else.

Thank you,
Roger

You can also enter the back way which is the entrance which was used during the construction.  If you enter Caumsett that way then there are no cars to deal with.

The main entrance road into Caumsett Park has finally reopened and it is beautifully smooth. They did a nice job on the parking lot, too, which has been reconfigured.
