Any interest in a B/B+ combo to Caumsett and Target Rock; express 36 ish miles with a quick stop at Caumsett? 9:00 departurefrom Smith St. I will post a route later.

Be aware, Caumsett has been overrun with people this past week since there’s nothing else for families to do with themselves. I did one lap at Caumsett on Wednesday and last Sunday and the crowding was about the same. There will also be noticeably more traffic on West Neck Rd to and from Caumsett but traffic is much lighter east of Caumsett. I was able to do around a 8-10 mph pace on the Caumsett loop.

JUST FYI - Still at work but according to recent alert, all group sports are canceled. Not certain if that applies to our rides.

These rides are not official club rides. Each rider must make their own decision to ride with a group or not. At least that is my opinion.

Here is my proposed route. We can discuss alternatives. Group riding is fine if we keep social distance, no expulsions of any body fluids, and watch your contact in any bathroom facilities. Wash All clothes at home immediately and shower ASAP. The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time. 🚴🏄🏻😎

Your view makes sense with one caveat. Cuomo in the last hour or two is limiting those 70 and over to exercise alone. That said, I’m riding with a small ad-hoc group in Suffolk tomorrow. Shot from the TV.

Yes, SBRA cancelled all rides. There isn’t a way for members to email each other through the club email. (There are over 800 members so that makes sense) But certain club officials can initiate a mass email. I’m part of 4-5 of riders that have a group text so that’s how we have been organizing. Not great but it works.
On another topic I attached a screen shot from the Mineola Bike Club by someone warning about riding too close to one another. It is supposedly written by a Dr but sounds a bit excessive.Hopefully one or more of our many fine Dr’s can speak to it.
Gerry
P.S. I haven’t been riding from Breezy because I’ve been told a knee replacement is in my future and obviously that ain’t happening with the virus. The rides have been way too hilly for me. That’s what most members like so that’s the way it should be.

I watched Gov. Cuomo’s news conference this morning where he went into great detail about the new restrictions and rules we all need to follow to try to lower the number of new COVID-19 cases before they overwhelm our healthcare capacity. The critical item in most short supply is ventilators. Here are the two rules that affect us the most: 1. Healthy people under 70 should limit their outside activity to getting groceries and medicine, but are allowed to exercise and walk outside, as long as they stay six feet away from others. 2. Stronger restrictions for people 70 years of age and older, people with compromised immune systems and people with underlying illnesses include wearing masks when in the company of others not visiting households with multiple people. 3. Nonessential gatherings of any size for any reason are banned. A chart in his presentation defined exercise as “solitary exercise”. A reporter asked about this and he responded that walking or jogging alone was fine, but not playing basketball or hanging out at a beach. No specific mention was made about cycling. The critical goal is to keep people separated so that the virus cannot spread. In light of all this, I think it would be in our best interest to suspend group rides for now for the following reasons: - Being exposed to the ‘exhaust’ of the rider in front of us may increase our risk.
- While theoretically we talk about maintain sufficient space between us, in practice this does not occur. Constant conversations occur when riding double up close to each other and often some trailing close behind too. And we’re always closing ranks at stop signs and traffic lights.
- I’m concerned about the ‘optics’ of a large number of cyclists riding together. If the general public becomes convinced that we’re flaunting or ignoring the rules for our own ‘selfish’ fun, this could cause even more backlash against cyclists and bicycles.
Thanks......arne

As these are not official club rides we can't stop those who desire to ride in a group do so.
If you do decide to ride as a group,HBC assumes no responsibility for the group or individual involved. NYC and L.I.organizations are not sanctioning official club rides for the near future. Please keep your social responsibility in mind when venturing out.

Here is my proposed route. We can discuss alternatives. Group riding is fine if we keep social distance, no expulsions of any body fluids, and watch your contact in any bathroom facilities.
