Asharoken Avenue paving

Mike Shapiro

Hi all, I understand Asharoken Avenue was scheduled for paving on June 30th. Does anybody know whether the paving is done? Or, if not, what is its status and/or when completion is expected? I gotta ride that road! And I gotta have more cowbell!

All Interested,

The route link and mileage/elevation is now on the ride calendar.

Guess I did not hit save.

C/C+ ride Saturday, 7/9

Mike Shapiro

Hello fellow riders,

Yesterday I posted a 20 mile local C/C+ ride for tomorrow, thinking there was a significant chance of rain during the ride and therefore wanting to stay "close to home".
Now it appears we should be dry tomorrow morning. So, tomorrow morning we can decide as a group whether we would rather venture somewhere else, perhaps Farmingdale Stuff-A-Bagel or Kings Park Bakery or ??? I have many routes in my RWGPS library; we can go anywhere you'd like (within 30 miles and 800 ft elevation gain, my mental upper limits for a C/C+ ride.) Note: I posted a ride to Kings Park Bakery for next Saturday, but whatever the group would like to do tomorrow is fine by me.

See ya tomorrow...

Hi folks, the short story is...Saturday's C+ ride destination is changed from Bay Shore Ferries to Belmont Lake. The longer story is that all routes to Bay Shore that have C+ length and elevation gain seem to be unable to avoid some heavily traveled roads: Brentwood Road, Fifth Avenue, Crooked Hill Road and Commack Road. I hope nobody is disappointed! It was a little too early in the day for seafood chowder, anyway. Hope to see y'all Saturday...

The bike clothing at Lidl isn't bad, either. Bib shorts are comfortable. The bike stand is well-made and comes in handy.

An FYI LIDL has a weekend special on its well known $40 bike stand.  Bought last year and have been happy with it. They tend to sell out quickly and are usually only available once per season.  On another topic, almost through recovery from back surgery and hope to see everyone in a few weeks.

I bought one of these last year. It surprising good quality. I also got the bike cleaning kit, I think it was $7, and the bike shorts and bib. They are not the best but good enough for short rides.

I wasn’t talking about only ride leaders. In fact, from my perspective, I was really talking about non-leaders.

I totally agree. I'm really amazed when Ride Leaders not only don't have their photo but have their ID in private mode. Sheesh! If it's because people are concerned about privacy issues here's some news: If you own a home, have a bank account, a driver's license, etc., etc. your privacy is gone, at least in ways you may define privacy.
It takes hardly any effort or time to put in your photo.

Hi all,

I notice that most members do not have a photo posted of them in their bios (and many members have restricted access to their bios altogether.)

As a ride leader, it would be nice if I could view photos of my riders to familiarize myself with them in advance of a ride. So, why not post a photo of yourself?

Just a thought...

Happy biking!
