Re: Ride With GPS Route Library
The steepest (ft/mile) Gold Coast Route is GC19 70 – 71mi/3334ft = 47 ft/mile. May be able to approach 60 ft/mile starting from Stony Brook and roughly following North Country Road to Wildwood State Park. Port Jefferson and Wading River have some pretty long and steep climbs. But I don’t think anything on Long Island can approach 100 ft/mile.
Some members have done club rides that start in New Jersey and go to Bear Mountain. These are probably steeper than Long Island routes. Perhaps someone can send these routes to you.
Good luck with your adventure....arne

Thanks y’all.
I’m trying to do as much riding as I can, particularly hilly routes as I prepare for my fifth multi day charity ride in Israel in October. This year we’re cycling the Galilee and....the Golan heights. If you’re familiar with Israeli geography, that’s a lot climbing.
Here’s the mileage, climbing and feet per mile:
Day 1 53/5296 99.92 Day 2 59/6302 106.81 Day 3 52/5756 110.69 Day 4 65/6675 102.69 Day 5 80/2092 26.15
The last day is mostly downhill from the Golan and then a circuit of the Sea of Galilee.
I’ve been doing some of Frank DelBalso’s hilly rides (did Hilly Hell and Huntington Beach, two times each!) and now can add the GC routes to my training regimen.
Any recommendations for 60+ mile hilly rides among the GC routes or elsewhere?
